Alet Uys holds BCom Law, LLB degrees from the University of Pretoria and a Master of Laws degree with specialisation in Family Law at the University of South Africa. Alet passed her LLM dissertation cum laude. She excelled academically as a Golden Key International Honourary Academic Excellence member and appeared on the Dean of the Law Faculty’s Merit List for academic excellence. Accepted for a Doctoral Study in Family Law at UNISA with immediate effect, to commence from 2023.
Alet was a judge of the University Of Pretoria Student Court, Constitutional Tribunal (one of eleven judges). Alet is currently completing a Master in Laws at Unisa which is a qualification that may only be completed on careful selection of students.
Alet worked at the University of Pretoria Law Clinic where she obtained extensive training in civil and criminal litigation. Working with indigent clients at the Law Clinic, Alet not only received superb and exceptionally extensive legal training but was also wired with the correct values and ethics required to practise law successfully.
Alet was admitted as an attorney of the High Court seven years ago and started her own law firm shortly after admission. Alet has already made her mark in the legal profession. The famous Hennie’s Restaurant unlawful arrest and confiscation of alcohol matter was handled by Alet in 2021. The matter received wide media coverage. Some career highlights include two reported cases in the Braamfontein Labour Court (2019), cases covered by the media such as a dog bite matter (YOU Magazine, 2019), an article in the Female Entrepreneur Magazine (2018), commentary in Netwerk24 (2016 – 2018) and success in Public Law matters (assisting the Organisation Undoing Tax Abuse, 2017 – 2019).
Alet has vast litigation experience having dealt with court cases in the Domestic Violence, Harassment, Magistrate’s and High Courts. She also obtained success in private arbitrations as well as Labour Court and CCMA matters.
Large businesses, including an estate agency group and the country’s second largest biscuit supplier, contacted Alet for assistance with legal compliance. Legal compliance included the drafting of employment and franchise agreements and reviewing documents for to ensure compliance with legislation such as POPI, CPA and NCA.
